Book – It’s About Time by Valorie Burton
We all race the clock every day as we have packed our lives with endless tasks. We will never get it all finished there is never enough time. Even with things, we enjoy we suck all the goodness out of the activity because of all the other activities we have going on. We now bounce from thing to thing being busy and “productive” rather than really enjoying activities that bring us purpose and meaning. Doing all the things does not bring us closer to happiness. It’s About Time is the art of choosing the meaningful over the urgent.
“The subject of time is something I have wrestled with my entire life. I have always seemed to think I can get more done in a day than I can, leaving me with the feeling that I’ve never done enough” (Burton, Pg ix).
I do not know about you but, I used to try to pack as much as I could into each day. Then I realized, if I picked 1-3 big things each day and focused on those, I would end my day feeling accomplished.
A few key underlining issues that many of us experience outlined in the book as to why we feel we don’t have time but we actually have more time than we think.
- Extending Deadlines
- Not Asking for help
Any of these resonate with you? Yep, check them all off for me!
How have I implemented this?
After reading this book I was inspired to take stock in what I say yes to and think about what activities are on my plate and if I am truly enjoying them or if they have become obligations. Many of the items on my plate I genuinely enjoy. However, when there are many things loading up the plate they cannot be enjoyed fully. It’s About Time is an excellent reality check and a roadmap to take stock in your life.
